5 Months Old

Yesterday Allie became 5 months old.  Too old if you ask me!  This month she began really reaching for things.  She started gaining interest in faces and loves to reach out for your chin or nose.  She also started getting her two bottom teeth.  Luckily, she never got too irritable from teething and didn’t  end up waking up during the night.  She’s starting to tripod sit, but much prefers to be standing.  When you get her into a sitting position she'll only stay like that for a few seconds and then she’ll hurl herself  backwards in an attempt to stand.  I have a feeling that we’ll have an early walker.  Kevin and I have continued to take a daily picture of her, so we’ll have the month of April up in a few days!

On a side note, our house has become an animal sanctuary.  We live across from a pond so we always have ducks and geese walking up on our lawn.  We’ve also found turtles on our steps.  Then we have a neighbors cat that is constantly traipsing through the backyard… always on the prowl.  We used to have a skunk living under our back deck, but the skunk got evicted by a fox who then decided to make a family.  Now we have a bird who decide to make a nest in my hanging plant on the front porch.  This bird has since became family.  We’ve named her Cecil Martinez (I named her Cecil and Kevin thought that name sounded Hispanic so he gave her the last name of Martinez).   She had four eggs in her nest and we were able to watch her from one of our windows.  Then, couple of nights ago, Kevin mounted his webcam to the porch and we were able to watch her on our TV.  Tonight, one of her babies was born.  We named the little one Sonya.  While watching the new mom and her baby, we also saw the dad (nicknamed “Big Red”) stop by to drop off some food.  This is a picture taken from our webcam video.

CecilObviously, the plant has died.  I didn’t want to disturb nature.  Hopefully we’ll have three more babies by morning!

Who doesn’t love a laughing baby?

Ok, So I was going through our blog and noticed it had been a little while since I posted a video of our munchkin. I also noticed that the majority of the video’s involved her giggling, squealing, or laughing in one way or another… so why break the trend. It’s her favorite thing to do, and our favorite thing to watch her doing, which is probably why we record it so often. Here she is at 4.5 months or so, enjoying life.

Morning Song!

No matter how exhausted I am in the morning, I always greet Allie the same way.  Whether she wakes up at 6:45 or 8am, I always sing:

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning to you

Good Morning, Good Morning, So glad to see you

I love you this morning, Good Morning to you!

I’ve been singing this song since she was about 8 weeks old, and I always get big smiles which is a great start to any day!

4 Months and growing fast!

Allie is now four months old and cuter than ever.  She smiles so much and has some favorite songs.  She loves hearing “Mr. Sun” and “Tomorrow” (the song from Annie).  She also likes “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Wheels on the Bus”, but I have to say that “Mr. Sun” is probably her all time favorite.  For those who don’t know it, it goes like this:

Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

Please shine down on me

Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

Hiding behind a tree

Allie’s here and she’s asking you

To please come out so she can play with you

Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun

Please shine down on me.

Kevin makes fun of me big time for this song, but she loves it, so I’ll sing it until my face turns blue if I have to.  I actually sang it yesterday when we went to the doctor’s for a well baby visit and she had to get her vaccines.  She didn’t shed a single tear while getting her shot because Mommy was singing Mr. Sun!  Although I almost shed a tear when the nurse took a look at Allie and said, “Boy, your mother gave you some good thighs!”  She might be 4 months old and weigh over 19 pounds, but it’s all muscle!

We’re Rollin’ Now!

As of yesterday, my little doll has started to roll over on her own.  She’s also started making raspberry noises which is so cute, but very drooly and messy!

CAKE!

If you know me, then you know that I love cake. Actually, I love just about anything you can find in a bakery. I enjoy watching the food network when they have cake challenges. I also like watching Cake Boss on TLC. I feel like I could be a master cake designer if I had access to the equipment. If I were 10 years younger I'd apply to be on MTVs Made to be a pastry chef. "I wanna be made"...

Fortunately we had two reasons to enjoy cake this month. It was Kevin's 29th birthday for the third time. I had a cake made for him at J&S Watkins. It was sponge cake with chocolate mousse. Here's a picture.

And it's my birthday this Wednesday. We celebrated early and Kevin had a cake made for me at Coccadotts. It was raspberry swirl cake with chocolate mousse. Here's a picture.

I think we'll have to make it a tradition to make eachother really yummy and unique cakes for our birthdays. :)

Sharing new videos... Finally!

So I have been slacking on posting any of the videos we've taken of Allie in recent weeks. It's amazing to us when we look back at the first few we took of her to see how tiny she once was. Not a day goes by that I don't notice something new about her, especially how quickly she is forming a loving and happy little personality. It's truly heartwarming to come home to her smile at the end of the workday. Enjoy the videos below!

3 Months and 1 week old.

Allie is now weighing in around 17-18 pounds. She goes to the doctor at the end of the month and we'll get an official weight and length then. I'm fairly certain she'll be off the charts because she's already wearing her 6-9 month clothes!

She sleeps really well at night - usually falling asleep around 7pm and only waking once for a feeding. She also takes 2-3 naps during the day. I've found that a rested baby makes for a happy baby (and mother!).

She's holding onto things now. She'll grab onto a toy, a blanket, your clothes, Mommy's hair... She's even begun rolling her shoulders over, but just can't seem to move the bottom half. She can push herself all the way up on her arms and bears a good amount of weight on her legs.

She's become much more social in the past month. She smiles often and laughs. She seems to be ticklish too. She'll watch someone walk through a room and sometimes she'll squeal for attention. Lately, she's been playing with her voice - humming, cooing, screaming as loud as she can in an extremely high pitch, saying "Roxy stop barking I'm trying to sleep". Ok, maybe not that last one, but we all know she's thinking it.

It seems every week she's learning something new. I can't wait to see what next week brings!

Photos from February!

Here are 28 days (although 29 photos -don't know how that happened) of Allie! Her Daddy and I have not missed a single day of photos. The resolution lives. Click on the photo for all the pictures.

1st Valentines Day!

Allie was dressed in pink and red hearts for Valentines Day (an outfit that she got from James and Kim in Houston) and she's holding a card that she got from her cousin, Katie. She's also holding a piglet that she got from her Aunt Tracy when she was born.

In the past week, she's begun to grab onto things. Mostly her own clothes or a blanket. She is also showing more interest in different toys other than Violet. Lately she's been enjoying her activity gym and her Elmo book that makes noise.

We've been trying to get her on a sleep schedule and she's been doing really well. She usually sleeps from around 8pm until 5am, then she eats and goes back to sleep for another 2 or 3 hours. The naps during the day are another story... she fights hard to stay awake, but lately we've been getting in 2 or 3 good naps. Speaking of naps... sounds like she's waking from one right now! Gotta go!
